First... Flickr, although maybe the best, is not the ONLY photo sharing website on the web. If you use Picasa... also consider using Picasa Web Albums, since it works well with Picasa.

The Flickr API

Picasa and Google Images
Flickr is not the ONLY way to do slideshow galleries on the web. Here is what Picasa and Google Images looks like. I love Picasa for how extremely easy makes it to see all the images on your computer, and how easy it is to upload images to your online gallery.
